Scighera

The Poetry of Fog

Location:
Milan, Italy

Status:
Competition Project

“Scighera,” the Milanese word for fog, is the guiding concept of this interior — a space imagined as a soft, suspended landscape where boundaries fade and the familiar becomes open to reinterpretation.

The entrance, inspired by the Japanese Genkan, introduces this mood through an image of bodies and colors emerging from haze. A corridor framed by perforated steel portals leads into a fluid apartment organized not by rigid rooms but by functional “islands” for living, working, eating, and resting. Curtains, screens, and furniture create gentle separations, like lights gradually appearing through mist.

Materials and lighting echo fog’s softness — satin glass, airy fabrics, mirrors, mosaics, diffuse illumination — while vivid accents of pink, red, blue, and yellow punctuate the space like streetlamps in the night.

Scighera becomes a calm, adaptable refuge, inviting slow living and continual reinvention.
